I found this blog rather heartwarming, someone so young taking an active interest in her world and doing her part to change things. It’s especially nice to see after some of the kids I encountered during the teacher training course I started last year (but didn’t finish)… no, really, most of the children in the schools I saw were great, but this one is definitely exceptional.

But of course the reason I’m posting about her and her blog is this entry. The sh*tstorm seems to have taken off enough  (see, e.g., this) that Argyll & Bute council will be hastily backpedalling any second now, though, so that’s nice. But seriously, ladies & gentlemen of the council, WTF? What did you THINK would happen when you try to gag a nine-year-old girl, especially one that the media are ALREADY paying attention to?

(More proper posts to come soon, I promise!)

EDIT: Er, sorry, I accidentally posted this to the wrong blog. It was meant to go here! I’m less than ecstatic about how WordPress.com’s user interface copes if you’ve got posting privileges on several blogs… I went to that other blog, clicked “log in”, logged in, and it defaulted to posting here. Genius.

As announced in previous posts, one of the directors of the E-Space Project (the company set up to establish and run the Exeter Hackerspace) has resigned. We are holding a General Meeting on 6th September 2011 to choose a successor and begin the transition. Please come along if you can, this is a vital aspect of running a hackerspace group and we need everyone to take an interest in our community in order to become firmly established and grow!

The meeting will be held as part of our usual weekly session, on Tuesday, 06/09/2011, beginning at 7:00 pm, at the Hot Solder workshop, Unit 22, Exeter Business Centre, Marsh Green Road.

Hi everyone,

it’s my first post to this new(ish) blog. This is just to remind you that we’re meeting as usual tomorrow (Friday, July 1st), from 7pm, in the Farmers Union pub in Exeter. Please come along, bring your recent hacks if they’re small enough, or tell us about them if not.

In other news, our application for a bank account is finally underway and proceeding nicely – I spoke to the Co-op bank on the phone today to clarify some details they had asked about.
